Honeymoon Safari at Sausage Tree

Romance Under African Stars

You're standing on your tent deck at sunset. A herd of elephants drinks at the waterhole 50 meters away. Your partner reaches for your hand. No distractions. No schedule except the one you choose together.

This is why couples choose safari for their honeymoon.

After 14 years hosting honeymooners at Sausage Tree Safari Camp, we've learned that romance on safari isn't just about champagne and rose petals (though we do arrange those). It's about shared wonder, authentic experience, and the kind of intimacy that happens when you're present together in a landscape that demands attention.

Why Sausage Tree for Your Honeymoon

The Size: Five tents means you'll never feel crowded. Semi-private activities are possible. Personalization is default, not upsell.

The Location: Olifants West's geography creates natural romance. River views, sunset vantage points on our hills, morning light that photographers dream about. The dramatic Drakensberg mountains are your backdrop.

The Sausage Tree Team: James and Sonja personally oversee honeymoon experiences. Our front of house team understand that romance means different things—some couples want adventure, others want quiet, most want both. They read the dynamic and respond accordingly.

"I remember every honeymoon couple," Sonja shares. "Not because of the formal requests, but because something shifts when people are newly married in the bush. They're vulnerable, open, noticing each other differently. We protect that space."

The Intimacy: A 5-tent camp means your tent is genuinely private. No other guests shouting over drinks. No crowds at dinners. The bush sounds are yours alone.

Your Honeymoon Suite: Tent 5

Tent 5 is our romance tent—upgraded with specific features:

The Experience: - Sliding glass doors opening to a deck overlooking the bush with the Drakensberg Mountains as a stunning backdrop - Outdoor shower (heated water, privacy screen) - Premium bedding (Egyptian cotton, proper pillows) - Sunset views that change every evening - Ambient bush sounds (your private soundtrack)

"The shower moment—standing under hot water in the African bush—that's when it hits you," reports one honeymoon guest. "You're actually here. Together. In the most beautiful place."

Romantic Moments: What We Arrange

The Private sky deck Dinner

An intimate dinner for two on our sky deck. Candlelit, beautifully arranged table setting with a complimentary bottle of bubbly

"We arranged the private dinner for our first anniversary renewal," shares Sarah, a returning honeymoon guest. "Chef Pitso served our favourite meal from our first visit. The guides had told him what we liked. That detail—remembering a year later—that's what made it special."

Timing Your Honeymoon Safari

Best Months for Honeymooners

May–August (Dry Season): - Coolest early mornings (8–12°C, clear skies) - Midday temperatures around 25 C - July and August get booked up early so plan ahead to avoid disappointment - Best for: low heat tolerant honeymooners, bug free, no risk of rain

October - March (Green Season): - Lush summer vegetation (incredible for photos) - From December - March many species give birth - Hotter temperatures 30 -40C - Risk of occasional rain showers although we are in a low rainfall area of average 450mm per season and as most rain falls overnight , safari drives are rarely interrupted - - Best for: Couples seeking the maximum species of birds as migrant species supplement our resident ones, heat tolerant honeymooners. Those combining a visit to Capetown and the Garden Route this is the best time for dry , warm Cape weather.

April, September (Shoulder): - Usually settled weather (25 -30C, ideal for everything) - Balanced game viewing and landscape - Best for: Couples wanting balance without extremes

Stay Length Recommendation

3 nights minimum (allows arrival + 2 full days + departure)

4–5 nights ideal (includes 3 full days, which creates rhythm)

The Reality: Expectations & Trade-Offs

What Honeymoon Safari Gives You

✓ Genuine privacy (only 5 tents)
✓ Shared wonder (wildlife moments become "us" moments)
✓ Disconnection (intentional, helpful)
✓ Personalization (team adapts to your style)
✓ Intimacy with your partner (no distractions)

What Safari Cannot Promise

✗ Perfect weather (rain happens during Green season and occasionally in shoulder months ✗ Guaranteed Big Five (wildlife is unpredictable; we work hard but can't guarantee)
✗ Total silence (the bush is alive; you'll hear it)
✗ Luxury resort amenities (it's authentic bush, but not a 5-star hotel)

One couple's reflection: "We wanted a romance-focused, adventure-light experience. What we got was romance through adventure—experiencing something extraordinary together. The trade-off was worth it."

What Honeymooners Say

"We've done two more safaris since our honeymoon. None compare to Sausage Tree. Something about being newly married in that space—it was transformative." – London couple

"The guides understood what 'romantic' meant without us spelling it out. They gave us space but were present when we needed them. That balance was perfect." – Australian couple

"We weren't 'safari people' before this. Now we plan our anniversary safaris years in advance." – South African couple, returning for 4th visit

Pitso's journey to becoming the heart of our kitchen began in 2012, when he arrived as a young assistant chef, eager but uncertain. "I knew how to cook," he recalls, "but safari cooking? That's different. You're not just making meals – you're part of the whole experience."
